SALSA WITH STYLE BOOTCAMP! A lot of the time, you can't quite put in to words why you are drawn to watching some dancers more than others. You may even find yourself saying something like, "gosh she / he's is gonna be really good someday", or even sit out of a dance yourself just to watch some other couple strut their stuff on the floor. Although these individuals inspire us, it can sometimes leave us feeling a little dejected with the conviction that we could never be that good. Ring any bells? Well let me tell you something, that's rubbish! I have never hidden the fact that for the first 2yrs of my dancing life, I resembled an ironing board with arms and legs, and I had as much style as a dried twig on a hot summer's day, so I have personally experienced every spectrum of the competency cycle in relation to Salsa. So what is it that sets one dancer apart from another? There are always going to be individuals that make us think wow, and yes some people are natural born dancers. Having said that it doesn't mean that the rest of us can not develop our very own wow factor! It is fair to say that most salsa classes are geared around the man acquiring new moves, and classes are usually taught by one person, who invites another pupil to help demonstrate that choreography. Steps are seldom broken down in detail, and women are often left to their own devices to learn the art of being dragged across the dance floor by someone who is concentrating more on trying to remember the routine, rather than focus on whether they are leading their partner effectively. With so much crammed in to such little time, it's no surprise that we sometime struggle with how execute a move with the technique and timing required, and have even less time to develop how to make it have a bit of style. This is not always the case, as there are always exceptions, but it is very common nevertheless. So with the requests and encouragements of my students, I have devised a workshop that will tap in to that inner "show off" and help you achieve your maximum dancing potential, no matter if you consider yourself to be a beginner or advanced dancer. This workshop is going to be about what you personally need to enhance yourself and your dancing, so detailing a list of all the areas that we will cover is going to be a little pointless. What I can tell you, is that I will be working on your confidence, the execution, timing & technique of spins, leg & hip action not forgetting the art of body positioning and isolation. We will also be working on what to do with the head, hands, arms, legs and feet. I do have a few other tips and tricks up my sleeve, but will leave those for the day. The workshop will span over approximately 3 hours, with a couple of short breaks thrown and is for the ladies only, although we will have male assistants present on the day so you can put everything you have learnt into practice. You are advised to wear comfortable clothing & appropriate footwear and bring with you some water and light snacks. |

We are delighted to inform you that the Bachata King and our very good friend Santino (known as Sandro to some is back) to facilitate another cracking Bachata workshop in March.
Santino fell in love with bachata music before the big bachata boom that has taken the whole world by storm. It was only natural for him to pursue the dance by traveling to the Dominican Republic where he undertook professional training. Furthermore, he works and performs with El Moro & Alegria who are the 2009 Australian Bachata Champions. Altogether Santino is a recognised and well respected bachatero.
Santino Di Fede is also a professionally UKA qualified instructor trained by one of the top dance coaches in the UK, and has been dancing and teaching salsa for 10 years. Santino has performed and taught internationally and has travelled to almost all the Latin American countries where he has undertaken professional training in various Latin dance styles. Santino is also a previous grand finalist in the official British salsa championship & merengue championship, has appeared on UK TV, promoted and run salsa clubs and has also designed a Latin fitness class for a top fitness centre in the UK.
Since moving to Australia, Santino has teamed up with Buena Vista Dance where he trains with artistic directors El Moro & Alegria weekly and is a member of the teaching, promotion and professional performance team. He is also part of Buena Vista Rueda team who were crowned Australian Champions in 2009 and will be travelling to Munich to compete for the World Championship crown this year. Santino's has a great teaching style and his classes are a lot of fun, come and see for yourself.
So what will the workshop involve?
Bachata Bootcamp:
Here you will learn the structure of bachata and in particular the dominican style. Even if you reguraly dance bachata, it would be highlyrecommended to take this class to truly understand the techniques and instantly make you an all rounded better bachatero/a. Those who have taken Santino's classes know that they are fun and informative, he has developed a great method to teaching the dominican structure and will certainly set you up nicely for the workshops that follow.
Bachata Passion:
ok so you have been dancing bachata 3, 6 maybe 12 months, here you will learn how to bring some dominican flavor to your bachata. most of us dance bachata socially and we may find it a little tricky to lead or follow some moves. this class is great for the social dancer who wants to be able to do some funky moves as a leader or a follower.
Bachata Dominican:
This style is just so damn fun that anything we say here would not do it justice. Come and learn some fun and intricate footwork and patterns. We guarantee that you will not regret it. We highly recommend you to participate in the bootcamp and passion class in order to prepare you for this class.
The workshop will start at 12noon sharp and be split into three 50 minute sections where all of the above will be covered. There will be a 10 minute break in between, finishing at 3pm.
Due to the limited number of spaces available - this workshop must be booked in advance through Akile
at £20 per person.
The last time we held this workshop it was a huge hit and was extremly well attended, so please do not delay in reserving your space.
For more details call Akile 07947 560 064 or speak to us on one of our club nights, held every Thursday at
The Fox, Palmers Green, London N13.
We guarantee this workshop is not one that should be missed!
Saturday 13 March 2010 - PARTY!
Buena Vista Dance & Latin Vibes bring you BACHATA BARRIO in LONDON!
Hola amigos,
Buena Vista Dance and Latin Vibes have teamed up to bring you BACHATA BARRIO in LONDON!
The first Bachata Barrio of this year will be held in London and has now officially gone international.
As we move into 2010 the vision of the Bachata Barrio is coming together with a true purpose. To Create a barrio where the community spirit and the passion for Bachata live on and to extend ourselves to other barrios in need.
This Bachata Barrio will be supporting the earthquake hit barrios of Haiti, the Dominican Republics neighbour. Many barrios have been destroyed but lets come together to let our friends in Haiti know that we've got their back.
In the Dominican Republic some people say that the word Bachata means communities who come together to eat, drink, sing, dance and celebrate. The barrio is where it all started, in the villages where Dominican locals first danced and shared the Bachata experience. It has spanned other countries since, each time creating a new barrio where the community spirit lives on.
barrio
